ABOUT US

The Association for Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy is a leading international REBT professional membership organisation. The Association is committed to continuing professional development of its members and in December, 1999 invited the Founder of REBT, Dr. Albert Ellis, from the Albert Ellis Institute in New York, to run a successful workshop with live demonstrations of REBT in practice. Dr. Albert Ellis PhD was an Honorary Fellow of the Association. 

The Association recognises REBT courses at Introductory, Foundation and Practitioner levels run by Accredited REBT trainers and supervisors.

The Association runs a free online REBT forum for both the public and practitioners. Just click the eGroup icon in the Forum section.

KEY AIMS OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY

To maintain a register of professionally trained Rational Emotive Behaviour Practitioners. 

To promote and develop the science of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT).

To promote the interests of members of the Association in their professional activities. 

To found and conduct a journal and/or other literature for the purposes of distributing information and advancing the objects of the Association and keeping members and others informed on subjects connected with REBT. 

To carry on all such activities as may be conducive to the aforementioned aims. 

CELEBRATING TEN YEARS

In 2003 to 2004 the Association celebrated ten successful years by giving awards to REBTers in recognition for their contribution to REBT.

The awards were as follows: 

Dr Albert Ellis, for the formulation and development of REBT 

Professor Windy Dryden, for bringing REBT to the UK and for his publications 

Professor Stephen Palmer, for development of the Association for Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy in the UK, the development of REBT in New Zealand and for his publications. 

Jack Gordon, a Lifetime Achievement award particularly focusing on his work on Bibliotherapy. 

Michael Neenan, for development of the REBT Association in the UK and for his publications.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Association has set up a joint UK CBT Register of accredited CBT and REBT therapists. This enables accredited REBT members to join this national register as psychotherapists. We publish a journal and newsletter, maintain a professional register and organise conferences and workshops.  Our newsletter, Rational News, is published on an occasional basis. 

The Association co-sponsors an online journal: The Online Journal of Multimodal and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. In the UK, there are a number of organisations offering professional REBT training. See our useful links page for contact details.

The Board of Directors are all volunteers. The Company Secretary is the only paid member of staff.
